A 35-year-old man has been arrested following the death of a woman in what police say was an “extremely violent” incident at her home in the Brabant town of Vlijmen.
The man is the partner of the 38-year-old woman who died on Thursday evening, police said on Friday. Her young child was in the home at the time, and a second child was with their father.
Police were called to the house at 10.30 on Thursday evening after receiving a report of a serious incident from neighbours. On arrival, they found the injured woman – named by the Telegraaf as Jessica – who was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.
The incident is the second this week in which a woman has been killed by a partner or ex.
On Tuesday, a 39-year-old woman was shot dead in front of her children in Gouda. Her ex-partner was found seriously injured in nearby dunes a day later. He died of his injuries on Wednesday.
Figures suggest that in the Netherlands, a woman is killed every eight days. In six out of ten cases, the perpetrator is the woman’s partner or ex, who, in most cases, is male.
