A man, found critically injured after a reported street fight in Auckland’s Ōtara overnight, has died in hospital.
A homicide investigation has been launched, while a second man is still in hospital with serious injuries.
Police were called to reports of a group fighting on the street in Wymondley Rd shortly before midnight.
“On arrival, two men were located with critical injuries,” Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor said.

Both men were taken to hospital, “however sadly, one man died a short time later”.
The second man remained in hospital in a serious condition.
“Police are now working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred, and to locate those involved,” Taylor said.
A scene examination would continue today, with cordons in place.

A pool of blood was still clearly visible on the footpath on Wymondley Rd, about 250m from the police cordon on Bairds Road.
A local resident, who did not want to be identified, told 1News he was woken by aggressive yelling outside around midnight.
He said it sounded like someone celebrating. He later saw police and an ambulance arrive and witnessed officers giving CPR to someone on the street.
Police urged anyone with information to come forward and call 105.
